Framus 5/111-T Atlantik Softline, 1967

Instrument:
The Television, Atlantik, and also New Sound TV-type models represent perhaps the finest stand-alone Framus design, perfectly balanced and simply well done. It has no center block, so it is a true lightweight thinline. Our guitar is a softline, it has rounded edges without bindings. At the time, a reminiscence of the playing comfort of the ubiquitous solid bodies. The date stamp on the soundhole label is 67 F, so the guitar dates from June 1967.

Material:
The body of the guitar is made of laminated maple. The beautifully flamed layer was unfortunately put on the inside and the plain wood on the outside. It seems that a worker did not pay attention and put the piece of wood upside down in the press... Ouch! Typical for Framus, they used it that way anyway - why throw away a good back? The neck is made of the indestructible and complex to manufacture beech multiply wood. It has a rosewood fingerboard with pearloid dot inlays in six frets and, of course, a truss rod. The "floating" mounted pickguard is made of beautiful, four-ply pearloid and has Framus lettering that has since been completely played away. Massive hardware, tuning stable vibrato unit, fully compensated bridge. The dark red lacquer is semi-transparent, the popular Black Rose finish perfectly executed.

Electrics:
The guitar has two of the typical Framus P90 single coils, which were installed on all Framus guitars for years. Each can be turned on and off via a switch, plus a bass boost and a rhythm solo switch. Control is via separate tone and volume controls for each pickup. The jack socket is the current standard.

Instruments history:
Unfortunately, largely unknown. The guitar comes from a large Framus collection, where it originally came from we don't know. But it must have been played for endless hours, because when we took it over, all frets up to the 12th fret were practically worn down to the wood. The varnish on the headstock was peeling, the Framus logo was missing, and so were two knob controls. But everything else was in amazingly good condition, so the guitar must have always been treated with care despite its frequent use and never has been a tinkering object.

Restoration work:
We have of course completely cleaned the guitar and blown out the body. All the lacquer surfaces were extensively bale polished. We polished the back of the neck, sanded the headstock, applied a new logo and refinished everything. Of course, the old frets were removed, the sometimes deep gouges in the fingerboard were filled, then the fingerboard was neatly sanded, straightened, and new frets installed. Finally, a new set of strings and a basic setup was made. We cleaned the slightly scratchy knobs, they now run perfectly and trouble-free again, and two missing knobs were added from our stock. We cleaned, re-oiled and polished the tuners. Also all the hardware was brought back to a high gloss. Finally, a new set of strings and a basic setup - that's it.

Current condition:
The guitar is a player and workhorse with great charisma and actually no patina at all. The many hours of playing are no longer visible, the few scratches on the body and the plectrum marks on the pickguard are ridiculously few for a 56 year old tool. The nickel plating of the pickups is rubbed off in a few small spots, probably due to the sweat of the player's hands. Of course, it's all spotlessly clean again and completely odorless. Visually beautiful with its Black Rose finish and nickel plated elements, the Framus shows the spirit of the sixties. The quality is excellent, everything works perfectly, all glue joints are bombproof. Thanks to the extremely low string action of around 1 mm at the 12th fret and the modern contoured neck, the guitar plays easily and at today's top level. The powerful single-coil sound is very versatile, the pickups are in top condition and fully performing, the adjustment options leave nothing to be desired. The sound ranges from warm jazz tones and Shadows sounds over sixties beat to powerful rock and rockabilly, here no wishes remain unfulfilled. If you are looking for a workhorse with spirit and an uncomplicated vintage guitar for all days, this Atlantik is the perfect choice. But by the complete, excellent original condition, it is also a collector's item and investment.
