Höfner 515, 1974

The 515 was a successful and long-lasting Höfner model from the mid-range segment and was built with minor modifications for 15 years from 1969 to 1984. Many young guitarists certainly made their first attempts on this model and learnt to play the guitar. Since then, however, hundreds of 515s have probably disappeared. Very good models, such as ours, are now rather rare. According to the stamp on the soundhole label, the guitar offered here dates from 1974.

The guitar has a beautiful, two-piece and bookmatched spruce top. The body is made of beautifully flamed maple. The neck consists of two solid pieces of mahogany, an expensive wood, elaborately crafted from two longitudinal pieces, including the headstock. The rosewood fingerboard has four pearloid dot inlays on the sides. Open, high-quality tuners, rosewood bridge - only premium materials have been used here.

Instruments history:
Unknown. It was offered to us and since we liked the beautiful, well-rehearsed sound and very good condition, we gladly took it over.

Restoration work:
The guitar was completely cleaned and the body was blown out. All varnish surfaces were polished, fingerboard and frets were sanded and oiled or polished. The tuners were as good as new, they were only freshly oiled after cleaning. Finally, a new set of Pyramid nylon strings and a setup - that's it.

Current condition:
The sound, playability and very good condition of this beautiful 515 are impressive. Neck, fingerboard and frets are flawless. A few tiny scratches and dents on the body are practically unnoticeable, the edges, for example, are perfect. The neck is straight and playability is child's play. The Höfner sounds wonderfully soft, warm and woody, like full wood and the way a high-quality concert guitar should sound. Perfect for beginners and advanced players, a beautiful travelling guitar or the one for every day, there is no guitar that is more robust and grateful. Due to its very good condition, it is of course also in good hands in any collection. It has much more character than any cheap Far East guitar.
