Framus 05303 Texan, 1975

Instrument:
Framus 05303 Texan from 1975. The stamp 75 D stands for April 1975. Finished in the typical black-cognac shaded lacquer. This instrument comes from a time in which short-time work prevailed in the Framus factory, the employees had not received their salaries and the final bankruptcy in June 1975 was just around the corner. The fact that this Texan has the round pickguard of the Dix, shows that not everything was running smoothly anymore. And yet, such wonderful instruments were still made! For years, the Texan was the best-selling acoustic guitar in the world and will always remain a design icon of the sixties.

Material:
A beautiful spruce top with extremely fine-grained wood, plus maple sides and arched back. The neck is made of two solid maple parts including the headstock throughout, it carries a rosewood fingerboard with truss rod and pearloid dot inlays as well as side dots in five frets. Bolted plastic tailpiece, as on all models from 1972 on - in the moustache shape made famous by Gibson with the typical Texan "cowboy" fittings. Open Framus tuners. Everything 100% original!

Technics:
This one poses a few riddles, because it does not come from the factory, but was possibly already upgraded by the selling music store in the seventies. Probably because Framus guitars were at that time only shelf warmers and possibly with pickups were better to sell. Mounted was a Shadow single-coil soundhole pickup with volume and tone controls in the top. Nice, but somewhat mismatched with Höfner control knobs. The jack socket in the lower side is an original Framus part.

Instruments history:
Unknown. We acquired the Texan from a musician who also used it for recording for many years and now wanted to reduce his inventory.

Restoration work:
Complete cleaning inside and out, extensive bale polishing of the nitro lacquer, frets and fingerboard slightly sanded and polished, fingerboard oiled. Tuners disassembled, degreased and oiled. New strings mounted and setup performed.

Current condition:
There were once thousands of them. But now Texans in very good condition are becoming fewer every day. Here everything is almost untouched, like a time travel, stable, solid and works perfectly. Fingerboard and frets are like new, of course. The thick jumbos play extremely comfortable! The sound is Texan-typical warm, balanced, with fast, brilliant response and clearly defined basses. No dull rumble as with some modern dreadnoughts. Amplified, no wishes remain open, the legendary and thousandfold proven pickup has full power. The string action is perfect, adjustable 2 mm at the 12th fret, with the bolt-straight neck nothing will buzz so fast. There are no quirks or blemishes in the nitro lacquer, just a few microscopic scratches on the back. Overall, though, nothing for nearly 50 years of guitar life. Of course, the body and neck are free of wood cracks, breaks or other damage. A beautiful Texan in top condition and one of the last to be built. It will fit in any collection, but despite its wonderful condition, it is too good not to be played. In any case, it is an interesting piece from a time steeped in history. Let's remember the brave Framus workers who still gave their all even under these circumstances.

Measures:
Overall length 41.3”/105 cm; body length 20.1”/51 cm; lower bout width 15.7”/40 cm; waist width 10.8”/27,5 cm; upper bout width 11.6”/29,5 cm; body depth 3.9”/10 cm; scale length 24.8”/63 cm (zero fret to saddle); fingerboard width 1.7”/4,2 cm at nut, 2”/5,2 cm at 12th fret; overall weight 2.230 g, string action on 12th fret 0,08”/2 mm (fully adjustable in both directions).
