Product information Höfner 4830, 1980

The 4830 was an entry-level model with a minimally scaled-down body for youngsters, but built to a very high standard of quality. As one of the most successful Höfner concert models, it remained in the product range from 1969 to 1988. Our model dates from 1980.

The top is made of Alpine spruce, the sides and back of beautifully flamed maple. The back is made of bookmatched veneer. The two-piece mahogany neck (glued lenghtwise including the headstock), the rosewood fingerboard and the rosewood tailpiece contrast beautifully with this. The soundhole rosette is also inlaid with rosewood. Open, engraved tuners with white pearloid knobs.

Instruments history:
The guitar was bought new by the first owner in 1980 as his second guitar in a music shop in Würzburg, Germany. It spent a quiet life in the living room. We took it over somewhat dusty but completely intact together with several concert guitars, as the owner can no longer play it due to his age.

Restoration work:
We cleaned and polished the guitar, blew out the body, polished the frets and oiled the fingerboard. A new set of strings was mounted and a basic setup was made.

Current condition:
The condition of our 4830 has remained practically unchanged for 42 years. It has no lacquer cracks, a tiny dent on the back, an approx. 2x1 cm dull spot on the lower side and a few minimal scratches at the back of the headstock, where there was probably once a music store sticker that has been removed. Otherwise it looks like new and is free of damage. The fingerboard and frets are as if untouched. Of course, the Höfner is completely odourless and clean. With the bright body, the tasteful rosette and the flamed maple it looks very classy. It plays very pleasantly with a low string action, the sound is loud, warm, woody and very harmonious. A rare piece and also a wonderful player guitar. Perfect also for beginners and with a thousand times more character and sound than a new Chinese beginners guitar.

Overall length 96 cm/37.8”; body length 46 cm/18.1”; lower bout width 36 cm/14.2”; waist width 23 cm/9.1”; upper bout width 27 cm/10.6”; body depth 8,6 cm/3.4” at neck, 9,3 cm/3.7” at lower bout; scale length 62,5 cm/24.6” (nut to saddle); fingerboard width 4,5 cm/1.8” at nut, 5,5 cm/2.2” at 12th fret; overall weight 1.350 g; string action on 12th fret 2-3 mm/0.08-0.12”.
