The 4831 was an entry-level model with a minimally scaled-down body for youngsters, but built to a very high standard of quality. As one of the most successful Höfner concert models, it remained in the product range from 1971 to 1988. Our model dates from 1981. On the soundhole label, the model number 4831, rather than the year of manufacture, was mistakenly noted in the space provided.
The top is made of Alpine spruce, the sides and back of beautifully grained rosewood, the sides slightly lighter than the back. The back is bookmatched. The one-piece mahogany neck and the wide rosewood fingerboard as well as the rosewood tailpiece match very nicely. Beautifully decorated soundhole rosette, open, chrome-plated and engraved tuners with white plastic handles.
The guitar was bought new in 1981 by the first owner in a music shop in Würzburg - as a gift for his nephew. The nephew almost never used it and so it spent a completely quiet life in the guitar case. We took it over practically as new as part of the uncle's small collection, since the nephew stopped playing completely it in the meantime.
We just cleaned and polished the guitar, blew out the body, polished the frets and oiled the fingerboard. A new set of strings was mounted and a basic setup was made.
The condition of our 4831 has been like new for 41 years. It has no cracks, scratches or dents. Fretboard and fretsticks are untouched. Of course, the Höfner is completely odourless and clean. With the wonderful woods and the tasteful rosette it looks beautiful and very classy. It plays very pleasantly with a good string action for concert guitars, the sound is loud, warm, woody and very soft and harmonious. A rare piece and also a wonderful player guitar in new condition.
