Framus 5/143 Atlantik, 1968

Instrument:
The Television and Atlantik models represent perhaps the most beautiful, independent Framus design, visually very elegant and simply well made. Here as a beautiful bass guitar in Black-Rose, so black-red shaded. It is a true Thinline without center block with medium 76 scale. The date stamp is almost completely faded, but with a strong flashlight you can still see the year of manufacture 1968.

Material:
Body including top made of laminated maple, the back subtle and finely flamed. The neck made of the super-stable and indestructible laminated beech wood, very elaborate in production. It is made of one piece including the headstock and of course has a truss rod. Matching color is the black lacquered headstock. Fingerboard made of very dark rosewood with dot inlays of pearloid in six frets. Large, encapsulated and nickel-plated Framus single tuners with metal pegs. Nickel plated hardware.

Electrics:
Two of the legendary Framus single-coil pickups, individually switchable on and off, each with separate volume and tone controls. This is easy and intuitive to use and that's all you need for rich and versatile bass sounds.

Instruments history:
Unknown. However, this Atlantik bass has not experienced much and has probably spent its life in the living room. The excellent state of preservation proves this. We took it over in 2020 as part of a larger Framus collection.

Restoration work:
The bass was completely cleaned and the body was blown out. The few quirks were carefully retouched and all lacquer surfaces were bale polished in several passes. The fingerboard was slightly sanded and oiled, and the frets were polished. The tuners were disassembled, cleaned and oiled, all hardware was polished. The electrics were overhauled, the controls made operable smoothly and all scratching and humming noises were eliminated. Finally, we performed a basic setup as usual.

Current condition:
If you are looking for an eye-catching vintage rock bass with modern handling, this is the one for you. Beautiful appearance, very tasteful color scheme in black-red-silver/nickel, deep gloss of the lacquer surfaces - this is a real eye-catcher! The neck fits perfectly in the hand and plays extremely comfortably, thanks to the low string action. Frets and fingerboard are in mint condition. No paint cracks, no serious damage, hardly any wear. On the top a few spots from the improper removal of a round sticker and four small lacquer damages - all this is practically impossible to photograph. Plus a bit of corrosion on the bridge pickup, that's about it and is all completely harmless. Everything else is like new. Acoustically, the Atlantic impresses with powerful sounds from soft to crisp, not a bit dull, and surprisingly versatile. Of course, it is in 100% original condition. Fortunately, the owner has also refrained from any modifications or optimizations. A beautiful player that finally belongs in a band! Or a highlight for the Framus collection after all? Atlantik basses in this condition are now very, very rare...
