Framus 5/143 Atlantik, Softline, 1967

Instrument:
The Television and Atlantik models represent perhaps the most beautiful, independent Framus design, perfectly balanced and simply well done. Here as a beautiful bass guitar in three-tone sunburst, i.e. shaded black-red-yellow. Executed as a softline version, i.e. without body bindings but with rounded edges. It is a true thinline without center block. Medium 76 scale. The seven of the year of construction is just recognizable, so it's a 1967.

Material:
Body incl. top made of laminated maple. The back of lightly flamed maple, all with black edges and fading to transparent varnish. The neck made of the super stable and indestructible laminated beech wood, very elaborate in production. It is made of one piece including the headstock and of course has a truss rod. Gorgeous grained fingerboard made of East Indian rosewood with pearloid dot inlays. Large, nickel-plated Framus single tuners with transparent pearloid handles, nickel-plated hardware.

Electrics:
Two of the legendary Framus P90 single-coil pickups, individually switchable on and off, each with separate volume and tone controls. This is easy and intuitive to use and that's all you need for rich and versatile bass sounds.

Instruments history:
Unknown. The sticker of the music store shows that it was probably originally sold in Böblingen, South Germany. But this Atlantik bass must have experienced quite a bit, some traces of playing prove it. Advantage: It is excellently played in. We took it over in 2020 as part of a larger Framus collection.

Restoration work:
The bass was completely cleaned and the body was blown out. The quirks on the edges were carefully retouched and all lacquer surfaces were bale polished in several passes. The fingerboard was lightly sanded and oiled, and the frets were polished. The tuners were disassembled, cleaned and oiled, all hardware polished. The electrics were overhauled, made operable and all buzzing and humming noises were eliminated. Finally, we mounted new strings as usual and performed a basic setup.

Current condition:
If you are looking for an eye-catching vintage rock bass with modern handling, this is the one for you. The neck fits perfectly in the hand and plays extremely comfortably, also thanks to the low string action. Frets and fingerboard are in mint condition. No lacquer cracks, everything is stable and solid. Some retouched dents and scratches especially on the edges. This is all completely harmless and can be easily seen in the pictures. Otherwise, the Atlantik impresses with powerful sounds from soft to crisp, not a bit dull, and surprisingly versatile. The neck pickup has endless punch in the low frequencies, the bridge pickup is loud and crisp and perfect for slapping. Of course, the Atlantik is 100% in original condition. Fortunately, the previous owners also refrained from any modifications or upgrades. A beautiful player that wants to keep on rocking - with its only 2.4 kg it is also very comfortable for long gigs in a standing position! But also a collector's item, because Atlantik basses in this good condition are now very rare...

Measures:
Overall length 43.3”/110 cm, body length 18.5”/47 cm, lower bout width 15”/38 cm, waist width 9.4”/24 cm, upper bout width 12.6”/32 cm; body depth 1.6”/4 cm, scale length 29.9”/76 cm (zero fret to saddle), fingerboard width 1.4”/3,5 cm at nut, 1.8”/4,5 cm at 12th fret; overall weight 2.420 g, string action on 12th fret 0.08”/2 mm (adjustable).
