Framus 5/118-52 Television, 1966, NEW

Instrument:
The Television, New Sound and Atlantik models represent perhaps the finest independent Framus design, perfectly balanced and simply well done. They are true, lightweight thinlines without a center block. This one in the classic sunburst finish. The soundhole stamp is no longer properly readable, but in the body we have additionally spotted the date September 28, 1966 - see pictures.

Material:
The guitar has a beautifully grained Kollitz Alpine spruce top and maple sides and back. The back is beautifully figured and flamed. The finish is perfect and there are thick creamy white bindings around the body, sound holes and neck. The neck, which is made from one piece including the headstock, is made from the intricately made and indestructible beech multilayer wood and is stained medium brown. It has an ebony fingerboard with genuine bow-tie mother of pearl inlays and side markers in nine frets, of course with a truss rod. The beautiful hardware is massive and nickel plated, the single tuners are closed and have creamy white pearloid tulip handles. Tuning stable vibrato unit, also fully massive.

Electrics:
Here we have a thousand times proven Framus standard: Two P90 single-coil pickups, each switched via an on-off switch and controlled by a separate volume and tone control. In addition, one switch per pickup for lowering the bass. Simple, intuitive and perfect for versatile sounds.

Instruments history:
Unknown. But this guitar never came out of the factory like this - it's a real "Frankenstein" and was assembled from a total of four Televisions. Guitar one provided the body, guitar two the neck, guitar three the pickups and guitar four all the rest of the hardware. Thus, the complete guitar consists of matching Framus Television original parts. It all started when we had the beautifully sunburst colored, but superficially completely scratched body. This was quickly joined by a very well preserved neck, and so the idea was born to rebuild an immaculate Television from scratch. To make it forever recognizable, we came up with a small, tongue-in-cheek special feature and painted in the new Framus logo, which didn't even exist in 1966! It is the only Television worldwide with this logo.

Restoration work:
First, we carried all the parts together over several weeks. The body and neck were extensively and completely refinished, a total of three ultra-thin layers of clear UV varnish with perfect result. We stripped and oiled the fingerboard and polished the frets. We cleaned and overhauled the electrics, polished all the rest of the hardware. The tuners were also disassembled, cleaned, refurbished and freshly oiled. This was followed by reassembly, installation of new strings and a full setup.

Current condition:
Of course, this Television is not new - but as good as. All parts used are Framus originals and match the year of manufacture of the body, 1966. The varnish shines with great depth, it is free of any traces of play and damage. The hardware is also in mint condition, of course you can see in one place or another that the parts are indeed well over 50 years old. The guitar is of course spotlessly clean and odor free, down to the smallest screw head everything is in new condition. It plays smooth as butter, thanks to a new-ish neck profile and low string action. The sound is wonderfully powerful, versatile and fresh, on par with the great appearance. Conclusion: A second Television in this condition will not be found worldwide, so the buyer should try to preserve it. But only for the showcase the Framus is much too good, it sounds too great and plays too easy. A unique opportunity!
