RECOMMENDATION: Strings for 12 string flat top guitars

- Order number: S-4-R338-12
Our recommendation! We fit these strings on all 12-string acoustic flat top guitars that we restore or overhaul!
The special feature of this product is the round core wire of the wound strings. Conventional strings have hexagonal core wires, which simplify production and reduce manufacturing costs. Round core wires, on the other hand, must be wrapped with extreme care to ensure even pressure on the bronze wire. In this process, the wrapped wire lies much flatter than with hexagonal core wires. The result is a better vibration behaviour, which leads to a very long sustain of the string and to an even tone development. Pyramid has been manufacturing these strings in the old handicraft tradition almost unchanged for over 60 years. Our recommendation and first choice for vintage guitars!
We recommend always using the lightest strings (Extra Light) on 12-string vintage guitars. Only a few guitarists have the strength to cleanly grip 12 stronger strings. In addition, the lower tension protects the guitar top and the tailpiece of the old instruments. After all, with 12 strings, around 120 kg of tension act on the components! For this reason, we also recommend loosening the strings a little, i.e. turning them down, when they are not used for a longer period of time.
Note: Wrapped Round Core strings must not simply be shortened, as the wrapping would come loose immediately and the string would become unusable. Therefore, first make a sharp, right-angled bend in the string and then shorten it behind the bend.
Like all Pyramid strings, these are hand wound by highly specialised string makers and each one is checked again by hand before packing.
